Devised and Performed by Jenna Watt
Giving Up the Ghost
This highly visual and theatrical piece of work explores the gradual breakdown of a familial relationship and its bitter effects.
Influenced by the work of Marina Abramovic, Lewis Caroll and Satre, Giving Up the Ghost reminds us of the sound, memory, feeling and taste of a bitter grudge.
'she crafts moments of genuine theatrical joy that illuminate her account and transform the work from essentially documentary into dramatic fiction'
'well written and imaginative with moving dialogue; a truly beautiful piece of work'
'I feel privileged in witnessing the beginnings of a truly artistic process'
Previous Performances:
Giving Up the Ghost was the final piece of work created by Watt during her time studying at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in April 2006. This was Watt's first solo piece of work performed to an intimate audience of fourteen people. A year later, in February 2007, it was performed at the UHI Miliennium Institute in Inverness, where Watt first studied acting and performance. Due to the highly sensitive and autobiographical nature of this work, this was perhaps a bit cheeky, and it will not be performed again, nor shall footage be made available.
